I remember the first time that I spoke with photographer, John Barclay. I was in a bit of a creative rut. After our talk, I was thoughtful, inspired, and ready to pick up a camera and work through my creative block. That’s not to say the second I went back out I was taking photos I was proud of again. It took me a while, but John Barclay gave me the spark I needed to get back out in the field.
Most photographers would stop at just giving me advice. However, John asked for my address and sent me a book on the creative life of photography that inspired him.
I wanted to have John Barclay on The Landscape photography Podcast to discuss a timely topic of contemplative photography and how to emotionally connect with your images.
In this podcast, John Barclay discusses his experience with mindfulness in landscape photography and how he uses GAP (grounded, aware, present) while he’s out taking photos. We also discuss how John Barclay teaches photography. National Geographic photographer Dewitt Jones describes John Barclay this way:
John Barclay is one heck of a photographer, both creatively and technically. Beyond and above that however, John is one of the best teachers on the planet.
