When I was doing my background research on Paul Zizka before we sat down to have a virtual chat, I came across a quote that I felt summed up exactly who Paul is.
“Whether it’s wading waist-deep into a glacier-fed lake or chasing auroras from dusk til dawn, Paul is known for an adventurous spirit that draws him to the extraordinary.”
The spirit of adventure spills out into everything Paul does. Even while we were talking, I could feel his excitement for the unknown and the possibilities of new landscapes to see and photograph.
During our chat, Paul and I discussed a wide range of topics. You see, I have already talked to Paul several years ago on my old podcast, Photography Roundtable. This time, I wanted to talk more about Paul’s inspiration for photography, and how he has organized his life to do what he loves to do.
I think one of the most interesting topics Paul and I discussed was his dedication to teamwork that makes his photography journey go. Knowing when to put a team behind you rather than doing everything on your own is a huge decision creatives need to make at some point. Also, we discuss how Paul realized he has only scratched the surface of Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies after shooting aerial photographs for his new book.
