After serving on a webinar panel with Kate Silvia for outdoor photography post-processing techniques, I knew I needed to have her on The Landscape Photography Show. Kate showed some very interesting concepts in the webinar, but I was interested in learning more about how Kate got started in photography through more of a paid classroom session versus the resource based learning style we see today. It’s important to hear what Kate has to say about it because I believe different personalities learn better in certain situations.
One topic that Kate Silvia and I discuss in our conversation is on the tenacity of photographers. Why do outdoor photographers obsess about the perfect composition paired with the perfect weather conditions? Why do we return to locations again and again searching for our perfect shot? Also, what separates photographers as creatives from other mediums of expression like painting, drawing, and sculpting? When Kate and I put our heads together, we came up with a compelling hypothesis that I’ve been using in my own photography lately.
